Bio
Lisa Wooding is a multi-discipline artist based in Bath, with a research based practice.
Out of the blue in 2020 I had a full and sudden heart block.
Healthy and very fit I had struggled to persuade the doctor there was something wrong with me when, breathless and blacking out, I couldn’t make it from one side of the kitchen to the other, even when I was crawling up the stairs in his surgery I was sent home. Soft Tissue Pocket is an ode to the pace maker that saved my life.
Soft Tissue pocket is the frontispiece to a body of research work that documented my healing process. Investigated the after. I am interested in ways in which the human spirit, when confronted by sudden adversity in this case severe illness, needs to derive new and diverse ways to reassess its place in the world.
With a hint to Heidegger’s philosophy of Dasein this body of work begins to scratch the surface of the connection between recognising the coming together of deep physiological stress with a rocky road to a new way of being.
