"I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" is an exploration of rest as a radical act within the context of chronic illness and disability. Through a series of 48 intimate photographs capturing moments of slumber across London's diverse landscapes, this installation aims to challenge societal norms around rest and how illness impacts life in a hyper productive society. Informed by Tricia Hersey's writing on rest as a form of resistance, each image portrays the artist in repose, outside of institutions they view as inaccessible or contributors to ableism (department for work and pensions, parliament, Tate Gallery etc). The accompanying lino printed pillow shown in the photographs serve as a tangible symbol of comfort. It also acts as a tool to invite viewers to interact and become part of the work, allowing them to take a break and question their own relationship with rest. The installation prompts viewers to confront the realities of navigating health challenges in a society that prioritizes productivity over well-being, and questions how a universal experience such as sickness
can also be so divisive.
